Salaama Miracle Ministry is renting a shelter in a slum called Katwe in Kampala. We collectt the street kids and make a program for them. One staff member is teaching them how to read, as many street kids don’t know how to read. They can also do some mathematics and shade, afterwards we worship and give praise to our God. Then we tell them a story from the bible and teach them, what we can learn from it. In the mean time someone is cooking lunch and we enjoy together the food. Some street children also sleep in our shelter. When they come regularly to the program, we know them better and if they show a good behaviour, we choose some boys to come to our Salaama Home three times per year.
Our aim after telling them about God, is to bring them back into their families. For that we need to get trust from them and to find out their stories. It can take time, til a street boy tells us where he comes from. But after that we need to meet his family and to see, if he can stay at home or if he needs a bit a longer time at our rehabilitation centre. Of course we try to keep in touch with them, as for them we are an important part for their lives. Whenever a kid stayed for some months at home, it is to test them, we want to help him for a better life, either the child is going back to school / starts the school for the first time or starts to learn a skill. So they are busy and not thinking to run back.
